Just like 40 years ago, the morning of April 21, 2025 was stormy and for those who were not born or did not experience the emotions and joys of the 1985 race at the Estoril Circuit, the heavy rain in the morning was a perfect reminder of the conditions in which three-time world champion Ayrton Senna celebrated his first F1 victory at the wheel of the magnificent Lotus 97T.

Just like 40 years ago, the rain did not dampen Senna’s legion of fans and more than 21,500 enthusiasts, of all ages, of the man considered by millions to be the “Greatest of All Times” were present and paid tribute to Ayrton throughout the Sunday morning and Monday afternoon.

With Clive Chapman, William Taylor and Charlie Catchpole from Classic Team Lotus in the box reserved for the 97T, joined by Kenny Szymanski (responsible for Senna’s tyres), Chris Dinnage (Lotus’ chief mechanic in 85) and Keith Sutton (official photographer of the three-time champion), there were many moments of joy, smiles, photos, selfies and autographs. Among all these and the visitors, it is worth highlighting the presence of Bruno Senna, Ayrton’s nephew, who with his joy and relaxed attitude brought the name “Senna” back to Estoril.

40 years later, the tribute was above all a moment of celebration, nostalgia and memories.

To all the visitors who attended the Estoril Circuit on the 20th and 21st of April, the Estoril Circuit would like to express its gratitude and, in the words of Clive Chapman and William Taylor… “come on, 40 more!”… so come on, because Senna is eternal!
